The time for objectivity in the news is over. There are so many media personalities who have massive followings claiming they are arbiters of truth and reality when they are lying directly to your face or fomenting unrest with anger, just for subscriptions and likes. We must look at motivations for why some people are saying what they are saying.
MEDIA CIRCUS
There is an endless stream of nonsense masquerading as news.
CONFIRMATION BIAS
We are all guilty of it,that is why it more important than ever to identify when you do it yourself, so you can identify it in the public square.
FACT-CHECKING
If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. However, it it always good to get into the habit of fact-checking the most outrageous sounding story. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.
NAVIGATION
You must develop the skills necessary to navigate through the information overload.
COLLABORATION
The heavy task of seeking the truth does not have to be done alone. There are millions of like-minded people who would be willing to discuss any fact-finding endeavor.
PRACTICE
Practice makes perfect, or at least close to perfect. The more you do something, the better you will be at it. Sharpen your news judgement and hone your instincts to the best of your ability.
